PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project Performance Metrics | Client & Project Profiles | Home

By establishing one set of desktop standards and policies, facilitated seamless communication, collaboration and teamwork among the client's employees worldwide.

This initiative brought best-in-class technology and applications to the desktop and established a robust platform on which to build e-Business capabilities, upgrading the client's suite of tools (from Windows 95, Office 95/97, Internet Explorer 4, Exchange client) to the Windows 2000 operating system, Office 2000, Internet Explorer 5.0. and Outlook 2000, a powerful integrated e-mail and information management tool.

Why Was It Needed?

The most critical need stemmed from client's commitment to become a deeply digital business. An estimated $1.3 trillion of commerce worldwide was transacted on the Web in 2000, and industry sales approached $200 billion.  The client had embraced the digital age with an aggressive e-Business agenda, and could not succeed without the underpinning of leading-edge information technology.  This initiative was a key element of the client's investment in the infrastructure needed to enable a comprehensive range of e-Business solutions.

What Hardware was Used?

A broad computer refresh was an important part of the deployment.  Globally more than half of all existing hardware was replaced, as it did not support Windows 2000.  IBM was selected as the primary supplier of laptop, desktop and thin-client devices, with Toshiba as a secondary supplier of laptops.

While each business stream, in coordination and with direction from Project Management, individually addressed hardware issues and ultimately matched new computers with specific job requirements, the following profiles were originally developed as the core hardware options.
